Accessibility

This site should work for everyone, however you use it. Here’s what it does, what it doesn’t do yet, and how to tell me when something gets in your way.

The standard

The site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, the standard most accessibility laws point to.

What’s built in

  • The site is built to work with a keyboard, and the item you’re on is clearly outlined.
  • A “Skip to content” link is the first thing a keyboard or screen reader reaches.
  • Images have text descriptions, and purely decorative ones are hidden from screen readers.
  • Every form field has a visible label, and form errors are spelled out in words, not just color.
  • Text can be enlarged, and pages reflow to fit phone screens without sideways scrolling.
  • If your device is set to reduce motion, the home page shows a still photo instead of its video and page animations switch off. The video has no sound and a pause button.

How it was checked

Every page was tested with axe, an automated accessibility checker, against the WCAG 2.2 A and AA rules, on a desktop screen and a phone screen. The two problems it found, tables that scrolled without keyboard access and a link marked only by color, were fixed the same day. Automated tools catch many problems but not all of them, so reports from people using the site matter most.

Known limits

  • Downloadable guides. The PDF guides and course contain real, selectable text that screen readers can read, but they aren’t tagged PDFs, so headings and reading order may not come through clearly. If you need a guide in another format, ask and I’ll work with you on one.
  • Certificates. The certificate files are images of the original documents. The certifications page lists each one’s title, issuer, and year as text.
  • Services run by other companies. Payment happens on Stripe’s checkout page, booking emails come from Calendly, and the contact form uses Cloudflare’s bot check. I can’t change how those work, but if one of them blocks you, tell me and I’ll find another way.

Tell me about a problem

If something on this site is hard to use, send me a message. It helps to say which page you were on, what happened, and what you use to browse (for example, a screen reader or phone zoom). If the contact form itself is the problem, message me on Instagram instead.

Non-urgent messages get a reply within 24 hours.
