About doula support

What does a doula actually do?

A doula gives you continuous emotional, physical, and informational support. That means comfort measures, help understanding your options, and a steady presence for you and your partner. I’m a non-medical support professional, so I work alongside your OB or midwife, never in place of them.

Is doula care medical care?

No. Doula care is non-medical support. I don’t perform clinical tasks like cervical exams, fetal heart rate checks, or blood pressure monitoring, and I don’t make decisions on your behalf.

Is a doula only for unmedicated births?

Not at all. Support looks different for every birth, and I’m there for you whether you’re planning an epidural, an induction, or a cesarean.

Will a doula replace my partner?

No. Partner coaching is part of the plan, so the person beside you knows how to help, and you both get support.

Booking and pricing

When should I reach out?

As soon as you’re thinking about support. Your retainer holds your due date window on my calendar, so reaching out earlier gives you the best chance of booking the dates you need.

How does the pricing work?

Birth support comes in three packages: $550, $850, and $1,200. You choose the package that fits your household. The Pay-It-Forward rate helps keep lower-cost support available for another family.

What’s the difference between the three birth packages?

Supported Birth ($550) includes 1 prenatal visit and 1 postpartum visit. Standard Birth Support ($850) includes 2 prenatal visits and 1 postpartum visit. Pay-It-Forward Birth ($1,200) includes 2 prenatal visits and 2 postpartum visits, plus a childbirth series or extra support we choose together. Every package includes continuous labor and birth support.

How do payments work?

A retainer holds your date on my calendar. The balance is due in the payment window in your agreement, around 37 to 39 weeks for Standard Birth Support. If you cancel before birth, the retainer is kept and everything else is refunded.

Can I add an extra visit to my package?

Yes. Once the visits in your package are used, you can add a visit for $50. Use it within 30 days. If I don’t hear from you to schedule it in that time, it isn’t refunded after it expires.

Labor and birth

When do you join me in labor?

In-person support begins once you’re in established active labor, usually strong, regular contractions every 3 to 5 minutes, or sooner if we agree it’s time. For early or long labors, support can be split into shorter segments.

What happens if labor goes really long?

A single continuous shift is capped at 16 to 18 hours. If labor goes beyond that, I may take a 2 to 4 hour rest while you’re cared for by your medical team and family, and then come back.

Can you support me if I have a cesarean?

Yes. Hospitals decide who can be in the operating room, but support before and after birth still matters, and immediate postpartum hospital support is available within 12 hours of birth.

Sessions and after birth

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes. Virtual prenatal sessions happen on Google Meet for $50 per hour. Cancel 24 hours or more ahead for a full refund. Cancellations with less notice aren’t refunded, and you can reschedule up to two times.

How long is a virtual session?

Most sessions run 1 to 2 hours, and some run longer. You pay $50 per hour, and your Google Meet link arrives once your request is approved.

When should I contact you about hospital support?

As soon as you’re admitted, or as soon as you have an induction or cesarean date. The visit needs to happen within 12 hours of birth, and most visits run 1 to 2 hours.

Do you do overnight postpartum visits?

No. Postpartum visits happen during the day. Labor support can run overnight because it is continuous.

Service area and medical questions

What area do you serve?

I’m based in San Antonio. In-home and hospital support has no travel fee within about 50 miles, which includes Boerne and New Braunfels, and I travel farther for a flat round-trip fee. Virtual prenatal sessions happen on Google Meet, wherever you are.

What if I have a medical question or an emergency?

Call your OB, midwife, or care provider for medical questions. In an emergency, call 911. I can help you think through what to ask, but I don’t give medical advice.
